Zippers

Zippers are another great addition to bring your clothing texture to life.

We'll start with the zipper pull. I start with a 256x256 canvas. On a new layer create a larger circle and a smaller circle, and fill these with grey.

Next, using the paths tool, create a trapezoid shape connecting the two circles, click Selection from Path and fill with grey

Using the ellipse tool, create a smaller circle inside the base and press delete, do the same process for the top circle.

On a new layer, using the paths tool, create another trapezoid shape however, this time, drag the edges slightly to create a small curve.

Once again, on a new layer, create a small rectangle and fill with grey. The image below shows you how all the parts fit together.

Next click Filters>Decor>Bevel, I used a thickness of 13, then click OK. Repeat this for each piece.

Hide the background layer and click Layers>New from Visible. Then click Filters>Distorts>Emboss. Leave the settings as they are and click ok. You should have an embossed layer sitting on top of your other beveled layers. Change its layer mode to soft light. With the background hidden, export this as a .PNG file for you to open in your creations.

To create the zipper, I started once again with a 256x256 canvas. Create a new layer and drag some guidelines on to the canvas. This will help keep the zipper teeth inline. Select the Paintbrush tool and change the brush to a rectangle with a size of 43.

Using the guides paint the rectangles on each side, slight below the other, as in the picture.

Using the Scale tool, shrink the layer and duplicate. Move this layer below the other. You can do this as many times as you wish for the length of your zipper.

Next click Filters>Decor>Bevel. I used a bevel of 13 as well. Hide the background and export as a .PNG layer.

Put the pieces together in your texture by clicking File>Open as Layers and navigating to where you saved the file. I added a small shadow behind the zipper teeth as well for the final texture.

P.S. I have included pictures in good faith to help you on your creating journey. Please do not steal my textures, creating your own is much more satisfying. Stealing my texture will result in a DMCA complaint lodged against you and I would hate for it to come to that.
