GIMP Custom Brush

Creating a custom brush is an excellent skill to have and surprisingly simple to make.
I started with a canvas 256 x256 and created a solid black image. If you are using an image you already have, you must turn it solid black. You can do this by selecting the image and using the brightness contrast tool to turn it black. Or simply select the image, create a new layer and fill the selection black. I find adjusting the contrast and brightness works better as the lines are much neater and more true to the original image. You can have this either on a white background or a transparent background.

The next step is to click Image>Mode>Grayscale, you probably won't see any difference to your image, but this step and the next are crucial to allow you to change the color of your brush.

Next click Image>Flatten Image. This will add a white background if there is none already, if you had a white background in the first place you will not see a difference.

Your image should look a little like this, but with the vector of the image you picked.

Next is exporting the brush. Click File>Export As. Type the name of your image.gbr for me this was Daisy.gbr. You will have a popup I changed the spacing to 100 and Description to the name of your brush without the .gbr. Save to an easy place for you to remember.

Next open up your file explorer from your desktop. Navigate to the brushes folder for gimp. The path for me is in the image below.

Once you have that open, open up a second file explorer and navigate to where you saved the image. Drag it to the brushes folder. You will need to close GIMP and reopen it to see your new brush.

You should now be able to use your brush and change the colors.

P.S. I have included pictures in good faith to help you on your creating journey. Please do not steal my textures, creating your own is much more satisfying. Stealing my texture will result in a DMCA complaint lodged against you and I would hate for it to come to that.
